Kernow 2017 – 31 Explorers fun and a lot of MUD!
We traveled to the Kernow Jamboree just outside Bodmin by coach very excited for the week. 2 Explorer Scout Units were represented Excalibur and Vipers and we were very grateful for the support from Great Linford Scout Group and to Heidi and Emily from 1st Walton who came along last minute when we needed a little extra help.
Explorers were on the Frontier Explorer Sub Camp lead by Taff, Will, and Ginge a super team of leaders and D of E volunteers. The week included backwards cooking, zorbing, climbing, abseiling, surfing and body boarding etc. Daisy ably represented Frontier in the Talent competition and came second with a fabulous performance. The weather made it challenging at times and yes there was a huge amount of mud!
The final day was called Splash and was at Watergate Bay, surfing and body boarding which everyone loved and the sun shone! We invested 5 new Explorer scouts with all the explorers on the beach from Devon and Leicester Units joining us. We used a closed facebook group and shared lots of photos with families over the week and streamed the investitures live. The Explorers loved meeting new friends in ESU’s across the country and are keeping in contact via a specially set up FB group – the new version of pen pals.
The Mud was so bad the Jamboree issued an additional badge 😊 I learned a lots camping with Explorers and we will look for new challenges for next year’s summer camp with perhaps a little less mud!
