The Scouts District Night Hike 2018 took place on Saturday 10th March.
There was a pleasingly good turnout with 5 teams taking part. There were two teams from Loughton Scout group, one team from 3rd Newport Pagnell and two teams from Stony Stratford
It was a mild evening which commenced with very light rain showers which stopped about an hour after the start of the event. The ground conditions underfoot were mainly good the exception being the waterlogged field on the approach to Cosgrove.
The first team left Hanslope Scout Hall at approximately 18:45 with each subsequent team leaving at 15-minute intervals thereafter. The teams made their way to Castlethorpe on footpaths and then crossed over the railway bridge and continued to Cosgrove via footpaths. On reaching Cosgrove they turned left onto the path to the canal wharf where they crossed the canal using the lock gates. From the lock, the route continued along the former route of the Buckingham canal towards Old Stratford. At the canal bridge, the path turned right towards Stratford Road where the route turned left towards the finishing post at The Quarries campsite. All teams made it safely home and were greeted with a hot drink and a welcome snack. (The Final team came in at approximately 10pm).
The winners this year were Loughton with Sony Stratford as worthy runners-up.
