As some of you may know, every year the Rotary Club of Milton Keynes organise a swimathon at Stantonbury Swimming Pool. For the last 10 years of so, 1st Middleton Scout group have made up teams of swimmers to take part in this charity fundraiser and Loughton Scout Group have also supported us on several occasions.
This year, I am appealing to as many of you as possible to make up our teams of swimmers. The event is free of charge and the only requirement is that you can swim 25m and willing to raise money for local Milton Keynes charities.
The way the event works is as follows:
- Teams are made up of 6 swimmers
- 3 swimmers wait at each end of the pool
- We are allocated a 55 minute slot
- When the claxon sounds, each swimmer takes it in turns to swim a length and tag the swimmer waiting at the other end.
- There are volunteer lane counters turning over a number after each length so that teams can keep an eye on how well they are doing against their fellow teams.
- A sponsorship form is handed out before the event so that each team member can ask friends and families to sponsor them on their swim.
- The charities receiving the sponsorship are chosen in advance by the Rotary Club - but they are all MK based (including Willen Hospice)
- We ask that each swimmer brings their sponsorship form and donations along on the day.
- The date of the event is Saturday 26th February 2022. We have been allocated the first swim of the day 9am to 10am (a great way to wake you up on a Saturday). We have use of the whole pool (6 lanes).
We would also like to enter a District Cub Leaders Team. If you would like to be part of this or know more please contact me.
