1st Crownhill Scout Group Sell Winning Ticket
1st Crownhill Scout Group are celebrating as they are proud to say they sold the winning ticket for the Community Foundation Car Raffle. Dawn and William were invited along to meet the winner and also give a small presentation about Scouting and how the fundraising helps the Young People of 1st Crownhill. As well as the funds that they raised from selling the tickets they were also presented a bonus of £100 for selling the special winning ticket.
This is what Dawn had to say about the experience:

I don’t know about you but when I give up my time on a weekend I would much rather it be to run an archery session, go on a hike or have a camp/sleepover than do fundraising. I am really bad at asking people for money, especially when we are not offering much in return.  School fetes and the like are great for raising our profile but usually end up just creating an even longer waiting list rather that raising much money.

The opportunity provided by VW and MK Community Foundation is therefore invaluable to make efficient use of our fundraising effort.  When we ask parents for raffle prizes they are not going to be able to offer us a car! Centre MK are not likely to let us have a stand on a weekend to sell tickets to win some bubble bath. The annual car raffle is a unique opportunity that we could not possibly create ourselves.

There is no outlay and the only cost is in time.  We are lucky enough to have a parent who for the last three years has taken on the role of co-ordinator, keeping a register of who has taken which ticket books, collecting them back and liaising with MK Community Foundation.

Every charity that sells tickets is given a minimum of two slots at the shopping centre to sell tickets and there are usually more slots available if you have the manpower to cover them. 50% of the amount you sell is kept by MK Community Foundation and 50% is received by your group.  This percentage actually increases depending on the amount you sell.

This year we were lucky enough to sell the winning ticket and so received a £100 bonus.

I would heartily recommend groups take advantage of this special opportunity, if you would like more information when the 2019 details are released please email me at [email protected].

District Beaver Sleepover Takes Over Safari MK
140 Beavers from across MK took over Safari MK for thier annual District Sleepover. The evening started with a play on the soft play area where many of the beavers had races down the slide before heading to the dance room for a boogie.
Even the leaders managed to get a piece of the action with the ADC Beavers and her team of energetic Beaver Leaders racing on the slide.
After this extended play it was time for a snack and movie in bed. The incredibles was the chosen movie i am told and all the beavers had an awesome time.

Huge thanks goes to all the Beaver Leaders and Helpers that gave up their Friday Evening to attend and also to Safari MK for being so accomodating.

Also Well done for another great sleep over Barbara.

Rumours had it that the beavers thought it was the best camp ever.
