We Need Your Help - MK Can!

We have registered to take part in MK Can!

Have you ever wanted to be part of a Guinness World Record attempt?

If yes, read on.

MK Can! is an initiative by MK Foodbank to break a world record by making the longest ever line of tin cans.

They have seen a 50% increase in demand for their services but also a decrease in donations as more and more families are feeling the pinch.  If the event reaches the target of 130,000 cans that would keep the Food Bank operational for a whole year.

Young people can work towards the Community Impact Staged badge, and community elements of the challenge badges.

How will it work?

Charity groups and businesses will be given sections of the route to fill, each section is 350 cans long.

The record attempt will take place on Monday 16th October in Campbell Park. It will be open to the public to walk the route and businesses will be allowed to advertise.

How can I help?

  • By collecting cans for the MK District Scout line
  • Cans should be standard size, not dented, and have a long shelf life (ideally a year)
  • With 20+ groups in MK we should easily be able to collect enough cans to fill one section, and perhaps we could aim for more.
  • The initial target is for 7 groups to pledge to collect 50 cans each
  • We have space to store items collected at the Quarries so no need to clutter up your storage.  More details on this to follow.
  • By helping transport cans from the Quarries to the event on the day
  • We will be given an arrival time for the day between 08:30 and 09:30 and cans will be dropped to a hub.
  • By helping set up the line
  • Set up is between 10:00 and 11:00.  Everyone taking part will set up their section at the same time.
  • By guarding the line during adjudication
  • Between 11:00 and 13:00 the adjudicators will verify the record attempt and we are responsible for manning the line during this process.
  • There will be entertainment during this period
  • By being part of the meet and greet
  • Between 13:00 and 16:00 the line will be open to the public.
  • This is an opportunity to be visible, promote Scouting in general or maybe you would like to advertise leader vacancies
  • There will be live music and entertainment, and food vans at MK Rose.

We need a minimum of 4 adults, maximum 10 at each stage of the day. We can accommodate a small number of YP too. It would be particularly good to have YP for the meet and greet if any schools have half term that coincides with the date.

If you would like to get involved by pledging to collect 50 cans as a group, or to help on the day please get in touch with [email protected]

Many thanks
