1st Olney Scouts recently held their annual Ready, Steady Cook competition. at the Quarries Scout Campsite. Split into 4 patrols the challenge was well and truly on. Finally getting to put their theory into practice.
In the lead up to the event the scouts were challenged with creating two courses which could consist of a starter and a main or main and a dessert. One of the patrols took on all three courses.
All cooking took place on open fires so the first challenge on the night was to get the fire started. There was extra points available for any group that used a backwards cooking method.
Other points were awarded for cleanliness, teamwork, presentation and taste. Lots of great team work was witnessed on the night and some real great discussions on what they need to do and how they should do it.
Dishes presented on the night included garlic bread, naan bread and dips and cow jumped over the moon as starters. Mains were macaroni cheese, quorn chicken korma, teriyaki salmon and meatballs in tomato sauce and pasta.. Desserts were damper with jam and campfire drop cake.
Judges were really impressed with all patrols and found it very difficult to crown a winner. Huge well done to all the scouts for their efforts on the evening.
