The 1st Wolverton Squirrels spent their Thursday meeting saying hello to the symbol of Christmas, Santa Claus.

On a cold winter’s night, and all throughout Wolverton not a creature was stirring, other than the Squirrels from the 1st Wolverton Scout Group as they had a visit from Father Christmas.

Mr Claus was very pleased to meet the youngest members of the Scout Movement, and the Squirrels were certainly on their best behaviour!

When asked by Santa what they wanted for Christmas, there was a buzz of excitement as there were cries of “Dinosaurs”, and “Minecraft Lego”, indeed, one young Squirrel will be overjoyed to hear that Santa may well have listened to their request for a Train Set…

“Santa was very funny” said one of the Explorer Scouts, who was acting as a Young Leader for the section; Santa was very aware of the socio-political climate, telling the Squirrels and their parents that coal might actually be a good gift this year.

One Squirrel, Oscar said that the best part of meeting Father Christmas was “him giving me a present”, whilst Oliver was seemingly super impressed with his “moustache and beard” but made specific inflexion on it being his moustache which was the most impressive part of Father Christmas.

One young Squirrel summed the experience up perfectly: “The best bit of Father Christmas was that it was Father Christmas”.

The Squirrels Section of Scouting is the newest section within the movement, and is targeted towards young people aged 4-6 years old. The 1st Wolverton Scout Group is based in the Wolverton Scout Hut and is arguably the oldest Scout Group in the world.
