MK Scouts took on the Endurance 40 & 80 Challenge this weekend.
Howe Park Scouts did Endurance40 which is a 40 km endurance walk targeted at scouts. The idea is to give scouts a taste of what Endurance80|60 is like, so that they have had some experience of endurance hiking when they come to tackle the bigger events as Explorer Scouts. The group manage to complete the walk.
The terrain is challenging and at points is very muddy and makes the walking all that more challenging.
We also were delighted to have a Endurance 80 team on the course from MK Explorers.
In outline: the event starts at Great Missenden, moves east to just beyond Chesham, northwest through the Chilterns towards Tring, turning east at the village of Hastoe. From there it goes through the wood to Kings Ash and on to Wendover, up Coombe Hill, past Chequers and down into Princes Risborough to the scout HQ. From there it cuts across country to the Icknield Way at Chinnor which it follows almost to the M40. Up Beacon Hill and from there to the scout HQ at Stokenchurch. From there through Radnage and Prestwood to get back to Great Missenden.
MK Network were also running a checkpoint, providing well needed support and encouragement to the walkers.
