Youth Team Update! |
February has been a quieter month for Charlotte and me however this month does see the return of Young Leader Training meetings
These training meetings are crucial because the Young Leader are the next generation of Leaders in Milton Keynes, so it is important for Young Leaders to attend the various training meetings that we have planned between now and the summer.
The benefits of this meetings are you get to meet young leaders from all around the district which allows to only make new friends but also learn new skills of each other. You also get to expand your knowledge and skills needed to be a good Young Leader and hopefully one day a good Leader.
We are looking for 2 Young Leaders who have completed their training to join the training team so if interested please email either myself or Charlotte for more details. As ever we are still pushing the You shape Award and are delighted that a couple of YP in the district our currently working towards there You shape Award. If Your section still hasn’t done You shape Award and would like to do a session on it but don’t know where to start then please look at the weblink below or email me or Charlotte and we will be happy to come and run a session for your section.
This is brilliant news as some of our YP are shaping their scouting for themselves. More information on the award can be found here:
https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteers/running-your-section/youth-shaped/youshape-award/
Over the next term and taking us up to Easter, myself and Euan will be looking to visit groups and run You Shape sessions with your young people.

Euan Jenkins – Purvis – Deputy District Youth Commissione |

LGBTQ+ History Month takes place every February. As we find ourselves in 2022, we begin to understand new pronouns, terminology, sexual orientation and identification but this is an ever-changing movement so while I share with you some posters that will hopefully help you to understand key terms and pronouns, please know that these are changing, and new pronouns and terms will emerge over the coming months and years. If you find yourself unsure of a term that a young person is using, do not hesitate to ask them what it means and explain it to you, often young people want to educate others on how they see themselves and will be grateful that you are taking the time to learn and understand. If you want support or want to know more, please do not hesitate to contact the Youth Commissioner team. |

As previously announced we are making sweeping changes to the way the District Waiting List is managed and maintained, in order to improve the ability for you to offer places with a higher success rate for communications with Parents.
Below is a link to the video Stuart Ball made around why the changes need to be made, and in the events below you will see a number of planned webinars for the next two weeks that will introduce the new tool.
It is imperative that anyone who is involved in the offering of places tries to attend one of these workshops. Recordings may be made available, subject to GDPR display of personal information. |
| |
We have started a data clean up of the Waiting List, through the new tool. As a result of that our list has shrunk 1-2% but still remains in around 1900 (excluding Explorers).
Our new tool is making reporting easier, below are some of the charts we're now able to get from the data. |
| |
Please can you check your Group meeting times, location and any other information you want displayed about your Group in our Group Directory, as this is used by the Waiting List Tool, and parents to know when/where you meet.

Lighting the Jubilee Beacon |
| |
"Good afternoon,
I just wanted to reach out to all the community youth groups within our parish to let you know that as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations we are planning to light our beacon on Thursday 2nd June 2022. As you may know our beacon is located at the Milton Keynes Museum.
The official ceremony will commence at 9:09pm with a piper playing “Diu Regnare” then the beacon will be lit at 9:15pm.
However, we were thinking that our youth groups maybe interested in a parade or would like to get involved.
If your organisation is keen to be part of our celebrations, then please feel free to get in touch and we can discuss this further.
Kind regards
Joe Quinn Community Engagement and Projects Officer Serving the communities of Wolverton, Greenleys, Old Wolverton, Wolverton Mill, Stonebridge, Hodge Lea and Stacey Bushes.
